Let’s Take a Look at Essbase in the Cloud
Paul Hoch

Essbase in the Cloud was released almost a year ago. It’s time to take a look and see how it can replace, enhance or serve the same role as your current on-premise Essbase environment. This session is a thorough look at Essbase in the Cloud, including a look at the differences between on-premise Essbase and the Cloud offering, what you’re getting and what you’re giving up, best practices for working with Essbase in the Cloud, particularly if you are running a Hybrid EPM Solution plus tips and tricks for how to make the most of Essbase in the Cloud. This session will also include a review of features like calculations, currency conversions, sandboxes, and other key things you need to know to get started. It will also include real-world examples. EDMCS or DRM: Which One Should I Use?
Steve Davis

When it comes to master data management, the questions you need to ask is: Where does master data management fit into our cloud strategy? Your organization’s master data management needs, now and in the future, will determine if you can work with the limited options Oracle Enterprise Data Management Cloud Service (EDMCS) currently offers while you wait for the planned improvements, or do you want the robustness of a mature tool like Oracle Data Relationship Management (DRM)? Currently, we are in a transition period between applications. This session will provide the information needed to decide which application best fits the companies master data management needs.

The Session will include:

  • A review of EDMCS
  • A side-by-side comparison of DRM and EDMCS
–Single version of the truth or “as is” source data from the individual applications
  • Real world examples showing
–When DRM is the best choice
–When EDMCS is the best choice
–When both are the best choice
  • How to fit master Data Management into your Cloud Strategy and Roadmap
–Do I need DRM, EDMCS, or should I wait until EDMCS is mature?
  • And more…

Daily Revenue Reporting in a Flash with Essbase ASO: A Case Study with TopDown Consulting & Quantcast
Paul Hoch and Anthony Leonardini (Quantcast)

Join Paul Hoch, TopDown Consulting Principal Architect, and Anthony Leonardini, Quantcast Senior Financial Systems Administrator, and discover how building a large ASO reporting cube eliminated manual processes and provided separate reporting results that included the ability to refresh the data any time in order to capture different analytics depending on the reporting requirements.

This session will cover:

  • How we built analytic dimensions and many reporting metrics.
  • How we used ASO persistent calc scripts to plug/tie revenue between reported financial results and data warehouse raw revenue data.
  • How we were able to automate the cube with both dimension building and data loading.
  • Additional dimensions for more granular data and advanced analytics—e.g., multiple years of data, ability to compare data for one day on a weekly, monthly, yearly, or multiple year basis, compare different days, weeks, months, and more.
  • How we used SQL load rules against their Data Warehouse to quickly refresh and reload large volumes of data at a moment’s notice.

Attendees will leave with a solid understanding of how to make ASO cubes work in any reporting situation.

Workforce Planning Integrated with HRMS: An E*Trade Case Study
John L. Maloney and Evan Thayer (E*TRADE)

Say Goodbye to TBH’s and Hello to Forecasting New Positions and Headcount throughout the requisition lifecycle. Join John L. Maloney, TopDown Principal Architect, and Evan Thayer, E*TRADE Vice President FP&A, and discover how they used Hyperion Planning to solve the reconciliation and headcount challenges by developing a new position based headcount forecasting and reporting model that integrates data from multiple HR systems as well as the applicant tracking system.

The session will cover:

  • A review of the pain points we needed to solve—e.g. timely integration of metadata and data, eliminate timely reconciliation efforts.
  • The initial solution as well as a demonstration the features and capabilities of the current solution, now in production since mid-2017.
  • How the Finance organization is realizing additional value from the implementation.
  • Lessons learned from a complex implementation with numerous integrations.
  • Review on how to implement this solution on-premise or in the cloud.
  • Attendees will leave with a solid understanding of how to take the information and lessons learned and apply them to their own real-world reconciliation and HR scenarios, salary expense and capacity planning by employee and position where applicable in the solution.

Hybrid Cloud Integration: Putting It All Together
Steve Davis

Oracle EPM on-premise, cloud, and the hybrid approach are all supported by a number of tools and technologies that can help navigate and resolve data migration and integration issues. These tools include Oracle Data Integrator (ODI), Financial Data Management Enterprise Edition (FDMEE), and Data Management. With so many options for integration, finance teams are asking, “Which one is best for our business needs?”

In this session, Steve will provide examples of the essential questions that help determine the best integration approach. He will review each option while focusing on tasks, benefits, and drawbacks. He’ll compare the integration options and the advantages of each offer, providing real-world examples of each approach. Attendees will come away with a solid understanding of the best integration method for their business needs.
